Working with Bench on Demand has been a great experience for my business. Over the last few years I had struggled to a find high quality, reliable, and professional programming group to develop and maintain our in house and client projects. Being a new start-up with a limited budget we needed to maximize every dollar we could and at the same time not sacrifice onthe quality and speed of our development. We researched many options including both in house and outsourced development. We had the usual hesitations of working with an offshore developer but in the end, after many recommendations, we chose BOD. A key factor in this decision is the fact that we were able to close the agreement with a US based office, this gave us a comfort level that we didn’t have with many others.

We quickly realized we made the right choice. The BOD development team brought a deep technical knowledge to the table as well as the ability to quickly grasp new concepts such as Facebook applications and implement them. The team was quick to respond to changes in design and any bugs that creeped in were quickly patched. Management was always open to communication and very responsive to issues that came up. For example, they gave us more development hours during a particular crunch time. The team has as a whole made a great effort to really understand our product and market and make suggestions as to features and design that we may have overlooked.

As an American company trying to build an internet start-up business from the beginning, development is easily your most important decision. After spending a lot of wasted dollars and time on hiring what I thought were lazy and overpaid American developers we finally decided that outsourcing is worth a shot. Quite frankly, I will admit that I was scared about sending the most important piece of the company overseas, our technology. Not being able to communicate face to face with someone, work the same hours during the day, language barriers, cultural differences, and potential loss of direct oversight on a project were always significant roadblocks in my mind from sending work overseas.

Even though we were faced with these potential issues we researched and interviewed many different development companies from Mexico, Russia, China, Columbia, and India. Our first interaction with Bench on Demand was a pleasant one because owners of the company very understanding of our concerns. The next step was speaking with the owner and head of development, Saran. He assured me that his team was fully experienced in all of the latest internet technologies. He also informed me that he personally oversees and directs all of the projects at BOD. As a bonus, there prices were at the lower end of what comparative companies were offering. It all seemed too good to be true. We signed up to get started immediately.

We were assigned one project manager and three developers. Their task was to take our existing code and integrate into new web 2.0 technologies. I will admit that in the beginning as with any new endeavor there is a phase of learning and communicating with each other. But, after about one month the development really started to take off. Not only was the quality of work improving by the day, but the development time for newenhancements was decreasing rapidly.

As the project moved forward, our Project Manager started becoming more and more comfortable with his role in directing the developers. What I did not expect was the way he embraced our vision as his own by making suggestions and improvements that I did not even think of myself. The communication barrier I was concerned about previously was not an issue as their mastery of the English language far exceeded my expectations. Not only do they understand everything you say well but they are extremely polite and courteous.

I am happy to say that here we are only six months after handing the project to the BOD team and we are ready to launch to the world. I can honestly say that I am not sure if we would have ever been in this position had we stayed with our American developers. No, I would say we would probably be out of business. Thank you BOD for your level of commitment, energy, detail, and passion. I definitely did not think the amazingly positive results were possible for any development partner. Because of you, we have made our vision come to life and our dream of our company being an internet revolution a reality.
